Atlanta Dream Select Three in 2017 WNBA Draft

Dream selects Sykes of Syracuse, Tennessee’s Reynolds and Duke’s Chidom

ATLANTA (April 13, 2017) – The Atlanta Dream selected Syracuse guard Brittney Sykes with the No. 7 overall selection in the 2017 WNBA Draft Thursday Night.

The Dream entered the Draft with three selections, the No. 7 pick in each round. Besides Sykes, the team selected Tennessee guard Jordan Reynolds with the No. 19 overall pick and Duke forward Oderah Chidom with the No. 31 overall selection.

“We are very excited and happy to select Brittney Sykes at No. 7,” Head Coach Michael Cooper said. “She is an excellent defensive player as well as a nice person that will fit well with our team. She will help with our goal of winning a championship.

“Jordan and Oderah will provide us depth as we begin training camp later this month.”

Sykes, a 5-9 guard out of Syracuse University, started a school-record 137 games and finished her career ranked third in school history with 1,846 points. A member of the 2016-17 WBCA All-America Honorable Mention team, Sykes was also named All-ACC First Team and was selected to the All-ACC Defensive Team.

“First and foremost, I am so grateful to be selected by the Atlanta Dream,” Sykes said. “Ever since I met Coach Cooper, I wanted to come to Atlanta. Coach’s energy is amazing and I can’t wait to get started.”

Reynolds, a 5-11 point guard, led the SEC in assist/turnover ratio, while dishing out 372 over her four-year career in Knoxville. Chidom, a 6-4 forward, averaged 8.1 points and 5.2 rebounds during her senior season.
