International Yoga Day 2017 with FREE Yoga and Meditation Sessions at Battery Park
In collaboration with New York City Public Advocate's Office and the Parks Department, Consulate General of India presents a celebration of the third annual International Yoga Day 2017 on June 19, 2017 from 5.00-8:30pm at Castle Clinton in Battery Park.
The admission to the event is free for to participate, but registration is encouraged at:
The first 500 participants to register online will receive a free yoga mat.
Thirty minute yoga and meditation sessions will be led by such organizations as Hindu Temple of North America, Mallakhamb Federation, Urban Yogis, and the Arts of Living Foundation, among others, and the evening will conclude with a performance by the band Butterthief.
The United Nations proclaimed June 21, 2017 as the International Day of Yoga at the initiative of the Government of India. Yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India. The word 'yoga' derives from Sanskrit, means to join or to unite, symbolizing the union of body and mind. Today it is practiced in various forms around the world and continues to grow in popularity. International Yoga Day aims to raise awareness worldwide of the many benefits of practicing yoga.
