Atlanta’s Legacy of Civil Rights and Future of Community Relations Panel

On Friday, June 2, from 5-7 p.m. Breakout’s national conference of 300 of the nation’s leading entrepreneurs, innovators and creators hosted a panel on the legacy of civil rights and the future of community relations at Ebenezer Baptist Church. The event took place at 5 p.m. and was open to the Atlanta public to attend. Music industry icon Shanti Das served as a moderator between Rev. Raphael Warnock of Ebenezer Church and Chief of Police Erika Shields, and the duo discussed their views on diversity, incarceration in the US and the future of community relations.

Ron Clark followed and presented how the Ron Clark Academy was founded and the way his unique style has revolutionized teaching by fostering an environment of inclusivity and understanding. Afterwards, some of the student scholars from Ron Clark Academy participated in the evening with a musical presentation.

Ambassador Andrew Young concluded the panel with a conversation with his daughter, Executive Director of ACLU of Georgia Andrea Young. He spoke on his work with Martin Luther King Jr., his experiences with the U.N. on a national and international level, as well as Atlanta’s legacy of civil rights.
