Fall Fest In Candler Park Set For September 30-October 1 With New Attractions And Events

(Atlanta, GA) For 2017, the Fall Fest in Candler Park is poised to once again earn its spot as Atlanta’s “favorite fall festival” with new attractions, early morning races and outdoor yoga, and entertainment for children and adults of this dynamic in-town Atlanta neighborhood. Taking place in Candler Park on Saturday, September 30th from noon to 10 p.m. and Sunday October 1st from 10:30 am until 9 p.m., the Fall Fest is a uniquely Atlantan experience, offering small-town festival fun minutes from the downtown skyline. New to the festival this year are two activities sure to get your heart racing: a Ferris wheel offering birds-eye views of Candler Park, and outdoor yoga sponsored by Tough Love Yoga. The Ferris wheel will be located on Candler Park Drive and will be spinning Saturday 12:00-8:00 pm and Sunday 12:00-6:00 pm. Tickets are only $5 per ride for adults and children ages 3 to 11. Children 2 years and under ride free with an accompanying adult. Yoga will be offered to all attendees without the need to purchase tickets or preregister. Neda Honarvar, founder of Tough Love Yoga, will lead a fun, free, all-levels yoga flow beginning at 10:30 am on Sunday. Festival yogis should arrive early and bring a mat or towel. The Fall Fest launches each year with a rowdy nod to fitness, via the 5K and Fun Run. Local and visiting runners will take a rolling (that means hilly) tour of the Candler Park neighborhood, including the local favorite Freedom PATH, which connects downtown to Stone Mountain and provides a smooth, car-free trail for Candler Park runners, cyclists, and pedestrians. Proceeds from race registration benefit the Mary Lin Elementary Parent-Teacher Organization. No Atlanta festival is complete without a dizzying selection of artists. The Fall Festival Artist Market, now expanding to both McLendon Avenue and Candler Park Drive, includes a carefully curated selection of unique art and clothing, one-of-a-kind gifts, and stunning crafts for home and garden. The McLendon Avenue artist market is sponsored by Peachskin Sheets, who manufacture super-soft bedding made of high-performance SMART fabric. As always, the Fall Fest will feature “an eclectic musical line-up that will have something for everyone!", according to Fall Fest co- founder and music director Mark Clement. Fox Brothers Bar-B-Q has partnered with the Fall Festival to bring this diverse mix of musical entertainment to Candler Park. Saturday’s music kicks off with Youth Quake, performers from the Atlanta Public Schools Grady cluster. These young rock stars are followed by Kilroy Kobra’s “genre-melting art rock” and the Tommy Thompson Band. Beginning at 4:00 pm, Saturday’s music becomes “Tribute Saturday,” boasting Tribute (celebration of the Allman Brothers), Lloyd’s Rocksteady Revue (reggae and ska hits of the 60s and 70s), New Sensation (INXS tribute band), and the final band, Clashinista (The Clash tribute). Sunday will feature only local bands beginning with “Linapalooza,” the local Mary Lin Elementary school talent show. Next up Sunday afternoon are The Squirrelheads with their “New Orleans funk,” MerryLeigh Giarra & 10 Degrees Off, and Dave Franklin. Just after 5:00 pm, four legendary Atlanta blues musicians will join forces and receive official Atlanta recognition for their contributions to the local arts: Beverly "Guitar" Watkins, Luther "Houserocker" Johnson, and Sandra Hall close out the festival on Sunday evening. Everyone’s favorite food vendors have returned to the Fall Fest in Candler Park for 2017, along with new selections promising eclectic bites for all. Some of the special “foodie favorites” include: Tex’s Tacos, Atlanta’s most awarded taco truck; Cattywampus Grill, a new Atlanta food truck serving up burgers, chicken and waffles, and grit fritters; Ma’s Irish Pancakes, sweet and savory Irish pancakes; Southern Crust, wood-fired pizza; Blue Island Noodles, wok-fried soba noodles with options for vegans and meat-lovers; and two popsicle legends -- King of Pops, of Atlanta, and Steel City Pops, hailing from Birmingham. Williams Bros. BBQ, Five Finger Philly, The Pickle, The Fry Guy, Buenagente, Pallookaville, Meatballerz, Sweet Chimney Bakery, Mix’d Up Burgers, Doggy Dogz, Rusty’s Nutz, Little Jimmy’s, Banjo Coffee, and Cult Carts round out the tempting food truck line-up. Beverage sponsors Goose Island IPA and Devil’s Backbone make sure festival goers stay refreshed throughout the day. In addition to a strong line up of entertainment and food, this year’s Fall Fest will also include Kidlandia, sponsored for the third year by the Edgewood Retail district. Along with the Kidlandia focus on old-timey fun, live shows, roving entertainers, and sweet treats, Mary Lin Elementary will sponsor a bounce house for little ones. At just five dollars for unlimited bounces, these are sure to keep the youngest festival visitors happy…and hoppy. The Sunday afternoon Tour of Homes is a staple of the Fall Fest in Candler Park, and this year’s selections focus on Candler Park’s eclectic mix of classic homes and innovative construction, woven together with an emphasis on sustainable construction and spaces for Southern hospitality.
