DeKalb Academy of Technology and the Environment Unveils Fully Transformed S.T.E.A.M Bus

STEM AdvancEd Accredited Elementary and Middle School Debuts Brand New Look for Mobile Laboratory Bus

ATLANTA (March 27, 2019) - Step into a world of exploration and discovery with the brand new mobile lab bus from the DeKalb Academy of Technology and the Environment, Inc. D.A.T.E. is excited to officially reveal their newly designed, tricked-out science class on wheels, which travels and provides engaging, interactive S.T.E.A.M. (science, technology, engineering, art and math) lessons to Early Childhood Development programs within the metro Atlanta community.

“The S.T.E.A.M bus offers an electrifying and magical experience that creates a unique learning environment to capture the minds, souls, spirits and creativity of children,” says Dr. Maury Wills, CEO of D.A.T.E. “Children become completely engulfed in exploring the science, technology, engineering, art and math activities and programs that the bus has to offer.”

The bus’ exterior design has been completely transformed, featuring elements of S.T.E.A.M. themed artwork and illustrations to highlight just some of the many topics touched on throughout the school year. From a rocket-fueled flight through the solar system to larger-than-life snakes wrapped around the bus, the new look showcases the fun surrounding S.T.E.A.M. education and the school’s core values: Relationships, Relevance and Rigor.

D.A.T.E.’s S.T.E.A.M Dream Team is comprised of middle school students, who create their own lesson plans to help younger students discover and explore various concepts of science and technology, while visiting the bus. Guiding them step-by-step through exercises and activities that spark their imagination and creation through the art of science, the programing allows students to build connections between engineering and technology.

The 24-foot bus features 11 hands-on learning stations, interactive smart boards, wireless internet access, laboratory equipment, exotic animals and so much more. The S.T.E.A.M. bus delivers high-quality instruction to over 6,000 Georgia children annually in public and private schools, daycare centers, community centers, churches and neighborhoods.

As a leading STEM AdvancEd accredited academy in DeKalb County, D.A.T.E. serves 750 students, between the grades of kindergarten through eighth grade, with a focus on technological studies and environmental sciences.
