SEA LIFE Aquarium Celebrates Baby Boom as it Announces the Arrival of Hundreds of Cuttlefish

New “Activity” Reported by Dedicated Workers Who Continue Care During Closure

Carlsbad, Calif. – Stay-at-home orders have prompted rumors of a possible baby boom on its way. While that won’t be clear for humans for about nine months, SEA LIFE Aquarium is thrilled to welcome its newest additions, cuttlefish babies.

Cuttlefish babies arrive within one to two months from courtship and now the aptly named sea creatures are welcoming hundreds of new hatchlings. It’s common for cuttlefish to breed during the spring and summer. A relative of the octopus and squid, there are approximately 100 species of cuttlefish and their sizes range from 1 to 35 inches. This particular species are known as flamboyant cuttlefish, so named for their bright ever-changing colors.

No matter what goes in the outside world, there are dedicated workers continuing the day-to-day care of thousands of sea creatures inside the Aquarium. SEA LIFE Aquariums feature more than 26 thousand sea creatures across eight locations in North America.
