Fernbank Museum Celebrates Summer with Science-Based Family Fun Days

Events to Feature Live Animal Encounters, Robot Interactions, Icy Cool Ice Age Activities and a Prehistoric Party

ATLANTA, June 1, 2017 – Fernbank Museum of Natural History is offering up some of Atlanta’s favorite family activities this summer with science-themed events, including Robots Day on June 3, Ice Age Fest on June 17, Reptile Day on July 8 and Dinosaur Birthday Bash on August 19. These festive events are sure to provide something fun for the whole family – whether interests lie in modern technology, prehistoric beasts, amazing animals or incredible dinosaurs.

Held on June 3 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Robots Day will transport guests into the world of robotics with Atlanta’s most intelligent androids. Through robot demonstrations, activities and games, visitors will learn how robots are programmed and discover their many functions. Event day partners – including Imagine That! and Future Tech, Brainy Bytes, Hello-Robo, G3 Robotics, and the Georgia Tech Institute for Robotics and Intelligent Machines – will be onsite with interactive demonstrations on how these fascinating machines operate. Featured robots will include Ozobots, LEGO® MINDSTORMS® NXT and more.

Guests are invited to beat the heat at Fernbank’s Ice Age Fest on Saturday, June 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., in celebration of the new special exhibit, Mammoths and Mastodons, and the new giant screen film, Titans of the Ice Age. Mammoths and Mastodons takes guests on a tour of an icy prehistoric landscape through fossils, artifacts, engaging interactives, immersive media, and the story of the most complete and best preserved baby mammoth ever found. The coolest family event of the summer, Ice Age Fest will allow guests to chill out as they dive into the history of these mighty beasts through hands-on activities, including crafts, games and treats.

Reptile Day will feature dozens of lizards, snakes, turtles and even a few amphibians. Held annually, this popular event is a unique opportunity to interact with and learn about extraordinary creatures and their ecological impact. Adding to the excitement, Fernbank is partnering with Atlanta Reptile Jungle, Georgia Reptile Society, The Amphibian Foundation, Atlanta Herpetological Club at Georgia State University, American Reptile Association, Wally Wahlquist and more for amazing opportunities to get up close and personal with these scaly and slithering creatures. Reptile Day will take place on Saturday, July 8 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

In August, the fun continues with Dinosaur Birthday Bash, a celebration of the anniversary of Giants of the Mesozoic – Fernbank’s permanent exhibition featuring some of the largest dinosaurs in the world. On August 19 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., guests will enjoy a day filled with dinosaur and birthday themed activities, a live DJ, crafts and games at this prehistoric party. The Georgia Bubbleman will be creating bubbles of gargantuan proportions, and Fernbank’s mascot, Giggy A. Dinosaur, will also be celebrating and available for photos. The festivities will culminate with a happy birthday sing-along. All family day activities are included with Museum admission which is $18 for adults, $17 for seniors, $16 for children ages 3-12, and free for children ages 2 and under and Museum members.
