Albies, Sims Selected to 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game


Infielder Ozzie Albies, pitcher Lucas Sims to represent Gwinnett on July 12 in Tacoma

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA – In an announcement made today by the International League, Gwinnett Braves’ infielder Ozzie Albies and pitcher Lucas Sims have been selected to participate in the 2017 Triple-A All-Star Game, set to be held on Wednesday, July 12 in Tacoma, Washington.

Albies and Sims were among the 17 players selected by the International League office to round out a 30-player roster. An additional 13 players were elected to the roster by combined vote of IL field managers and general managers, members of the media and online fan voting.

Albies, 20, ranked the Atlanta Braves’ No. 1 prospect and the No. 7 prospect in baseball by MLB.com, is batting .271 with 15 doubles, seven triples, six home runs, 45 runs scored, 31 RBIs and 18 stolen bases in 69 games with Gwinnett this season. The second-year G-Brave is a first-time IL All-Star, and currently ranks among league leaders in stolen bases (2nd), triples (2nd), at-bats (4th, 291), runs scored (T-6th), hits (T-8th, 79) and total bases (T-9th, 126). It is Albies’ second career mid-season All-Star selection, first since 2015 in the Class-A South Atlantic League with Rome.

Sims, 23, ranked the Atlanta Braves’ No. 18 prospect by MLB.com, is 6-3 with a 3.98 ERA in 15 starts during his second season with Gwinnett. The first-ever Lawrenceville, GA native to play for the hometown G-Braves, Sims is a first-time IL All-Star. He currently leads the league in strikeouts (92), and also ranks among IL pitching leaders in starts (T-1st), SO/9.0 IP ratio for starters (2nd, 9.63), innings (3rd, 86.0), lowest BAA (5th, .229), fewest baserunners/9.0 IP ratio for starters (5th, 11.09), WHIP (6th, 1.20), wins (T-7th) and ERA (13th). It is the first career mid-season All-Star selection for Sims at any level.

The 30th annual Triple-A All-Star Game, pitting the International League vs. the Pacific Coast League, will take place on Wednesday, July 12 at Tacoma’s Cheney Stadium. The game will be broadcast live on MLB Network, American Forces Network, MiLB.TV, and the Triple-A All-Star Game Radio Network beginning at 9:00 p.m. ET.
