Atlanta is home to Major League Rugby’s (MLR) newest team and, today, that team officially announces their name. RUGBY ATL, a soon to be fan favorite, will start the 2020 season this January and will proudly represent the South, as the only team within a 6-state region. Final logo, stadium, player, scheduling announcements and more will come later in the year.
We are excited to expand the league to Atlanta, giving rugby fans a front row seat to the action of the game on a professional level, said Dean Howes, Commissioner of MLR.
Rugby is the fastest growing sport in the world. It has successfully established significant player participation at youth and collegiate levels, and the Atlanta metro area is no exception. Life University in Marietta offers one of the country’s top rugby programs and has produced many MLR players.
We are not only excited to bring our love of rugby to the Atlanta metro area but to really engage in the community and its development, said Bob Taylor, President & CEO.
