South Broad Street Market Debuts Saturday
Picture this! You, strolling down a bustling, pedestrian-friendly street in the heart of Atlanta, sampling international bites, with a cocktail in hand as live music fills the air, on the hunt for eclectic treasures. With the debut of the South Broad Street Market this weekend (Saturday, March 14, from 10am-4pm), antique seekers, art aficionados, thrifters, and people watchers can make this a reality, every Saturday, now through December. “Our Big Citizen headquarters are right in the middle of South Broad Street, so we’ve had our sights set on producing a unique event in this neighborhood for some time now," said Darren Carr, founder of South Broad Street Market and co-founder of Big Citizen. “I’ve always gravitated toward historic markets such as Portobello Road Market in London and Brooklyn Flea in New York and to bring something similar to one of the most beautiful and historic streets in the city is a dream. We’re excited to bring an open-air market to all those that live, work, and play downtown.” The debut market will showcase more than 35 local vendors (rotating each week) selling unique goods, with communal tents housing furniture collections, clothing racks, and a tent dedicated to local art for purchase. With a range of price-points, from flea-market prices to investment pieces, visitors can peruse the vast range of curated items for sale at their choice of booths setup along South Broad Street, between Martin Luther King Jr. Drive and Mitchell Street. (Expansion is also on the horizon over the coming months.) In addition to coming to the market with an open mind, be sure to come hungry. Food is available for purchase, with a focus on international, independent, and experimental cuisine – no funnel cakes here. With vendors serving up plates of Hawaiian, Caribbean, shawarma, vegan dishes, tamales, and more, there’s something for everyone. With so many different cultures coming together in Atlanta, the showcase of food at South Broad Street Market is a great way to experience Atlanta’s vast culinary landscape. Big Citizen’s beverage team will also be onsite exclusively serving signature drinks for purchase for those 21+ up, allowing visitors to sip and shop with their choice of specialty cocktails, seltzers, and beers with prices ranging from $3-$8. So, bring ID. “Regardless of what you set out to find, with endless choices of local art, housewares, knickknacks, collectibles, vintage apparel, and furniture, you never know what eccentric things and people you’ll discover at South Broad Street Market – that’s the magic of the experience,” said Carr. South Broad Street Market is for everyone, enticing anyone who loves art and design, purposeful conversations, Atlanta history, Buford Highway-worthy food, and is intrigued by the opportunity to explore a curated madhouse amongst a buzzing city center.
