Most Amazon-Obsessed States

  • Delaware takes the crown as the most Amazon-obsessed state

  • Electronics is the most Googled category in most states, followed by books

  • Alaska does not rely on Amazon as much as other states, ranking last on the list

In honor of Amazon's Big Spring Sale, which starts from March 20 until March 25, the research team at Refermate decided to see which states are the most obsessed with the online shopping platform.

The research team analyzed the average monthly searches people interested in purchasing from Amazon make in every state. These figures were then measured against the population size of each state. The team was also able to identify the most popular type of products people googled for in those states.

Delaware seems to have the biggest obsession with Amazon, taking the lead with 55,200 monthly searches per 100K people. The state might be full of tech-savvy individuals, since among all types of products, residents in Delaware have the biggest interest in all things electronic.

The silver medal goes to Florida as the number of monthly Amazon-related searches there reaches 51,844 per 100K people. The Sunshine State also showed great interest in electronic products, which is not surprising since this state is quickly becoming a big tech hub.

Coming in third is Ohio, closely following with 51,831 average monthly searches per 100K. Ohio residents mainly go to Amazon in order to buy their books. Let’s not forget that Kindle is one of Amazon’s greatest products, so it is no wonder why people have such a high interest in ordering books through their platform.

Gathering 51,243 monthly searches per 100K people, the state of Connecticut takes the fourth spot in the ranking. This state was primarily interested in women’s fashion, as the website offers a big range of clothing options to customers which could easily explain the high volume of searches.

Virginia is fifth, with a monthly search average of 50,878 per 100K people. Rather than having to carry all their groceries home, residents in Virginia seem to prefer avoiding the hassle by ordering through Amazon.

In sixth place is Rhode Island, with 50,246 monthly searches per 100K people. Books were the most popular category in this state, and it’s no wonder since Amazon is the world’s largest bookstore.

Massachusetts ranked seventh, nearing 50K monthly searches per 100K people. The Bay State searched for computers the most, perhaps due to how the platform caters to different prices and preferences.

The state of Michigan follows eighth with 49,750 average monthly searches per 100K people. Among all categories, Michigan residents seem to have the highest obsession with beauty & personal care.

New York is ninth on the list, gathering 49,167 monthly searches per 100K people. New Yorkers seem to like shopping for their groceries online, as this category was the most searched in the state.

Lastly, New Hampshire closes the top 10 with 48,967 searches per 100K. Women’s fashion was the most searched category in this state, as people seem to prefer trying the clothes from the commodity of their own house.
