Atlanta-Area Restaurants Tap into Their Expertise to Help Guests Raise the Perfect Cold One

ATLANTA – Few holidays require celebrants to grin and “beer” it like National Drink Beer Day, which falls on Saturday, Sept. 28. If there’s one thing Atlanta is not short on, it’s a plethora of pubs and restaurants with impressive beer programs. Area bartenders are ready and waiting to help patrons get “hoppy.”

If you’re in Virginia-Highland, fun times will be brewing at Atkins Park Restaurant & Bar. Not only can you tap into their extensive beer menu, you also can enjoy a great meal at the same time. 404-876-7249;

As its name suggests, Cold Beer is the place to go after walking or jogging up a thirst on the Atlanta BeltLine. Kevin Gillespie’s recently opened restaurant on the edge of Inman Park features a unique beverage selection in addition to a delicious food menu. 404-254-1032;

HOBNOB Neighborhood Tavern may be best known for its selection of bourbon, whiskey and scotch, but it also is home to an excellent beer program, featuring a wealth of thirst-quenching craft beers. The Midtown location has a slightly different menu than the Perimeter or Brookhaven locations so you may feel the need to visit two to celebrate just right.

Not only can armchair sports fans catch the Atlanta game du jour at Irby’s Tavern, but they also can show support for Atlanta’s finest, such as Scofflaw, SweetWater Brewing, Wild Heaven and Atlanta Brewing Co. 404-254-1333;

Hoping to score with football fans, Loyal Q and Brew in Alpharetta and Loyal Tavern in Roswell are offering 22-ounce pours of Terrapin Golden, Miller Lite and Coors Light on tap for $5.25 throughout the season. Loyal Tavern boasts 24 beer taps, and both eateries update their menus regularly on Untappd so beer fans can see what’s currently available. 470-359-9947; 678-659-9412;

Atlantans who believe the holiday should be all fun and games will want to head to Ormsby's to knock a cold one back while shooting some pool or playing shuffleboard. The welcoming neighborhood tavern recently updated its beer menu. 404-968-2033;

If you’re not currently a member, National Drink Beer Day may be the perfect time to enroll in Taco Mac’s Brewniversity, where you earn credits as well as rewards for sipping suds. If you want to make the celebration last, devote the afternoon and evening to visiting a variety of outlets, each with its own beer menu.

Revelers also are welcome at The Georgian Terrace Hotel where Edgar’s Proof & Provision is ready to help you get your beer on. The community drinkery (and one of Atlanta’s best-kept secrets) boasts a beer menu with a refreshing selection of canned and bottled brews and pints on draft. 866-845-7551;
