National Take the Stairs Day Kickoffs the Atlanta Climb Season

Wednesday, January 8 is National Take the Stairs Day, and people all over Atlanta will be ditching their morning elevator ride and taking the stairs! This year the American Lung Association is challenging those stair-steppers with a new challenge: the Fight For Air Climb. On Saturday, April at 8:30 a.m. hundreds of American Lung Association supporters will scale over 50 flights of stairs up 191 Peachtree Tower at 191 Peachtree St.

Hundreds of people have already signed up to climb up 1,200 stairs at 191 Peachtree Tower in support of friends and loved ones that have a lung disease, and to raise funds for healthy air and lung disease research, education and advocacy.

Local firehouses will be showing their support at the end of the race by climbing the 51 flights in full firefighter gear – helmet, hood, pants, coat, gloves, boots, and air pack – weighing over 45 pounds. Firefighters have an increased risk for lung disease from exposure to gases, chemicals, and smoke in the line of duty.

This year, we have several individuals who have a personal connection to lung disease or share a passion for giving back that that will be climbing with us. We’d love to tell their story to you and your audience on National Take the Stairs Day.
